In accordance with China’s general requirements on the system reform of science and technology, currently there is only one central non-profit research academy. It is mainly in charge of social non-profit projects covering food security, health and nutrition, grain and oils products development, and R&D of specified equipment for scientific research. Five research institutes formerly belonging to the central government were transformed into hi-tech corporations after system reform. At local level, there are 27 provincial research institutions, which provide effective quality inspection service for grain processing, storage and distribution.
